The Law, Governance & Development Research Initiative of Azim Premji University is looking to recruit interested and committed academics as Faculty at Azim Premji University.

Azim Premji University, Bangalore is a university with a clear social purpose. It aims to make significant contributions towards a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society through the development of talent and the creation of knowledge which can facilitate systemic change in education and allied development areas. This is an explicit commitment to the idea that knowledge and learning have human and social consequences and that their pursuit cannot be separated from these consequences.

The Law, Governance & Development Initiative (LGDI) at the University is a research initiative which engages with the field of law and development and recognizes that the origin, structure and pathologies of government and the legal system in India are at the core of the problems of governance and development. Hence, the Initiative seeks to create new knowledge and restore the study of the structure and practices of government and the constitutive and instrumental role of the legal system to the core of our enquiry into the problems of development and governance.

Eligibility: Candidates holding a doctoral degree in the social sciences especially in law, politics and political science, economics and public policy. Successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of high quality research and publications.

Scope of Work: Faculty will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to pursue their independent research projects as well as be engaged in collaborative academic and policy research, and field based research with the initiative. They will also engage with the delivery of the academic program at Azim Premji University.

(i) Candidates must have a post-graduate or those with other advanced degree in the social sciences, preferably in law, politics and political science, economics and public policy.
(ii) Candidates must be enrolled for a PhD or must have submitted their PhD thesis and awaiting confirmation.
(iii) Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong academic record, published academic work and an ability to do high quality research.

Period of fellowship: Two years

Scope of Work: Faculty fellows will be engaged in collaborative academic and policy research, and field based research with the initiative and will assist in the delivery of the academic program at Azim Premji University.

Students currently studying and interested in academic questions of law, politics, economics or related fields can apply to the Initiative for internships.

Interns will be expected to assist on both substantive and administrative projects in areas that the Initiative is currently engaged in. The Initiative offers internships for a minimum period of four weeks and applicants must be able to commit to being in Bangalore for the whole of the duration of the internship.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate attention to detail, responsibility, strong writing skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks with aggressive deadlines.
